Chinese violinist Sherry Shen has performed extensively in the Far East and currently plays with the London City Philharmonic. Nicola Siagri obtained a RCM Artist Diploma in Performance after completing his Masters at Italian conservatoire ‘Jacopo Tomadini’.

The Art of Lent
Lent Course 2021

A painting, a poem and a prayer, with time to ruminate, reflect and respond.  That’s the simple recipe of this year’s Lent offering. 

On the four Thursdays in March (4, 11, 18 and 25) we’ll explore four themes - Sorrowing, Sitting, Seeking and Seeing - in the company of some great art, and in the Zoom-enabled company of each other. The sessions - which will begin at 6pm and last 40 minutes - will be led by Stewart & Carol Henderson, Jonathan Andrew, Becky Warner and Darren McCallig.

Lent Appeal in 2021 - Laptops for children

Children are doing their school work at home, many with limited or no access to technology - eg. siblings and parents are sharing just one laptop between them. Our Lent Appeal this year will aim to provide computer aid for local families in need. We hope to raise as much money as we can to provide technology for familes with children at both Esher Church School and Esher High School. The funds will be divided equally between the two schools.

Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence. It is the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross. Ash Wednesday, marks the start of Lent in the Christian calendar and has been observed by Christians for centuries.

The medieval mystic Meister Eckhart is reputed to have said that if the only prayer we ever say in our whole lives is ‘thank you’, it will be enough. It’s quite a claim, and one could perhaps quibble with it. Nevertheless, it reminds us of the vital importance of an attitude of gratitude.

Born in Tokyo and an alumna of the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest and London’s Royal Academy of Music, Eri has numerous competition prizes to her name, and her international performing career has taken her all over Europe and Asia, including performances in Warsaw, Budapest, Salzburg and Tokyo. Her Esher recital will feature two famous Beethoven sonatas and works by Chopin.

Having fallen in love with the sound of the classical guitar in 2010, Alex has pursued an active performance career ever since graduating from the Royal College of Music, giving recitals across London and the home counties as well as in Poland, Germany, Croatia, Spain and Austria. His programme will include works by Scarlatti, Rodrigo and Barrios.
