“We want a real king!” they said.  “One we can see!”

God knew that a king might not be kind to his people or look after them as well as he would.  But God’s people didn’t care; they wanted a king and they wanted him now!

Day 9 – The Walls of Jericho

Bible Ref: Joshua 6, Ornament: Wall

God’s people had been wandering around in the baking hot desert for 40 years!  So you can imagine how sick they were of sand and anything yellow, and tents and walking and being hot!  Imagine how happy they were to reach the edge of the desert and to see their beautiful new home – right there in front of them – all cool and green and lovely.

There was only one problem.  Jericho.

We should like to bring to your attention the Elmbridge Young Person’s Lodgings Scheme. This scheme seeks to enable both short and longer placements to ensure young people are provided with a safe and caring space with a view to them developing independent living skills. As a church community with an ethos of healing and guiding,  we would ask people to prayerfully reflect on whether this scheme might be something you are able to support. The attached pdf has further information and contact details.

Day 8 - Rahab & the spies

Bible Ref: Joshua 2, Ornament: Red cord

Joshua was the new leader of the Israelites, God’s people, but they were tired of wandering around the desert and were ready to build themselves new homes. The country that God had promised them was beautiful and very good, but there were people living there who did not believe in God. God wanted His people to live there instead.

One day, God said to Joshua, “Get everyone ready and I will give you this land”. “Be strong and very brave, I will be with you wherever you go”.
