Day 17 - Mary

There was a young girl who lived in Nazareth.  Her name was Mary and she was engaged to a man named Joseph.  One morning, Mary was minding her own business when, suddenly, a great warrior of light appeared – right there, in her bedroom.  He was Gabriel and he was an angel, a special messenger from heaven.

Can you imagine how you would feel if an angel suddenly arrived in your bedroom? When Mary saw the tall shining man standing there, she was very frightened.

Day 16 – Jonah and the Big Fish

God had a job for Jonah.  But Jonah didn’t want to go.  “Go to Nineveh,” God said, “and tell your worst enemies that I love them.”

“No!” said Jonah.  “Those are bad people doing bad things!”  “Exactly,” said God.  “They have run far away from me.  But I can’t stop loving them.  I will give them a new start.  I will forgive them.  You must go and tell them.”

There was once a man named Isaiah.  God had a special job for Isaiah.  It was his job to listen to God and tell people what he heard.  Now, God let Isaiah know a secret.  God was going to mend his broken world, and he showed Isaiah his Secret Rescue Plan:  “Operation: No More Tears!”  This is the message he gave to Isaiah for all his people:

Day 14 - Elijah & the Prophets of Baal

Bible Ref: 1 Kings 18, Ornament: Bonfire

King Ahab was a bad king. He was so nasty that he even murdered someone so that he could have his vineyard! Ahab didn’t worship God; he worshipped a false god called Baal.

God was angry with Ahab and had stopped it raining in Israel, so there were no crops.  The people were hungry and thirsty.

Elijah, God’s prophet, told Ahab and all the prophets of Baal to climb to the top of Mount Carmel because God was going to send rain.

Day 13 – Solomon Builds the Temple

Bible Ref: 1 Kings 6, Ornament: Temple

King David wanted to build a beautiful temple for God, but the Lord said, “No David, but your son Solomon will build it for me”.

David started getting everything ready for the temple, and all the people brought their precious things: gold, silver, bronze and precious stones. He also stored up iron, wood and marble, and gave Solomon all the plans that God had given him for the building of the temple.
