Prayer visual for this week:

30 silver coins, loose or in bag, placed at the foot of the cross. This symbolises Jesus’ betrayal by Judas, for 30 pieces of silver.

Prayer activities and ideas for this week:

Choose one or two things from your Ash Wednesday list to pray about. If you find it helpful to do so, write your prayers down on small pieces of paper and attach them to your cross, if you are using one.

Lent prayer series - Shrove Tuesday

Feb
27

If you're having pancakes today, enjoy them!

Today's prayer activity:

After your pancakes, think or chat about what comes to mind when you think of Easter. Make a note of these – they could be symbols, ideas, thanks.

Prayer starter:

Spend a few minutes giving thanks for everything on your list. Ask God to help you understand His love for you and others more this Lent.

After giving thanks, put your list away somewhere safe, so you can come back to it during the Easter weekend.

Day 24 – The Star Gazers

Bible Ref: Matthew 2, Ornament: 3 Crowns

That same night, in amongst the other stars, suddenly a bright new star appeared. Of all the stars in the dark vaulted heavens, this one shone clearer.  It blazed in the night and made the other stars look pale beside it.

God put it there when his baby Son was born - to be like a spotlight.  Shining on him.  Lighting up the darkness.  Showing people the way to him.

Day 23 – The Shepherds get a Shock

Bible Ref: Luke 2, Ornament: Fluffy Sheep

Now, God was like a new Daddy - he couldn't keep the good news about his baby son to himself.  He'd been waiting all these long years for this moment, and now he wanted to tell everyone.

So he pulled out all the stops.  He'd sent an angel to tell Mary the good news.  He'd put a special star in the sky to show where his boy was.  And now he was going to send a big choir of angels to sing his happy song to the world: He's here!  He's come!  Go and see him.  My little boy.
